Newcomer Glenn Seven Allen is rapidly establishing himself in the world of opera. In 2009, he sang the role of Rodolpho in A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE with Vertical Player Repertory Opera, supervised by William Bolcom. Other engagements included GIRL CRAZY at City Center Encores! directed by Jerry Zaks with musical direction from Rob Fisher, and Romeo in ROMEO ET JULIETTE with New York Lyric Opera. In December he sang his first Rodolfo in LA BOHEME for Martha Cardona Opera followed by THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK with the Westfield Symphony Orchestra. In addition, Mr. Allen was also a finalist in the 2009 Merola Program competition. In 2010, he will sing his first Duke in RIGOLETTO for New York Lyric Opera, as well as the role of Alexis in THE CHOCOLATE SOLDIER at Bard SummerScape with conductor James Bagwell.
Mr. Allen’s concert appearances include The Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center/American Songbook (Casino Paradise), Symphony Space, The NY Historical Society, Joe's Pub, Broadway High Note, Music Hall-Detroit (Stars of Ballet and Broadway), the Ars Nova Broadway Spotlight, and the Brooklyn Museum.
As an actor he has appeared On Broadway, Off-Broadway and at major regional theatres throughout the United States. Recently he starred in FOR LOVERS ONLY, a new Off-Broadway musical at New World Stages. He was nominated for The Helen Hayes award for Best Actor as Clifford Bradshaw in CABARET at Arena Stage in Washington D.C. under the direction of Molly Smith. Favorite roles include Edward Rutledge in 1776 at the Goodspeed Opera House and Michael Morgan in A FINE AND PRIVATE PLACE at the York Theatre opposite Christiane Noll. On-Broadway he appeared in THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA at Lincoln Center, covering the roles of Fabrizio and Giuseppe. Previously, he originated the role of Giuseppe in pre-Broadway productions of ...PIAZZA at the Goodman and Initman Theatres. He also starred in KNB in the New York International Fringe Festival produced by Gorilla Rep. Regional credits include playing Pontius Pilate in JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR (North Carolina Theatre) and Frederic in THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE (Utah Shakespeare Festival). Other credits include JULIUS CAESAR (Utah Shakespeare Festival), THE ARK (Village Theatre), LIGIEA (Aspen Music Festival), A MICHIGAN MAN (Solo Show-On The Boards), and THE STUDENT PRINCE (Papermill Playhouse) and MRS. BROMLEY (Harold Clurman Theatre). Mr. Allen is grateful to have worked with directors Bartlett Sher, Craig Lucas, Jerry Zaks, Jon Jory, Molly Smith, Gabriel Barre, Lisa Peterson, Rob Ruggiero, Michael Unger, and Jerry Manning.
His film/television credits include appearances on AS THE WORLD TURNS as Dr. Joshua and as himself on MTV performing ‘Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go’.
His training includes an MFA in Acting from the University of Washington and a BFA in Musical Theatre from the University of Michigan. In addition, he has attended the New York Opera Studio, the Aspen Music Festival, and the Interlochen International Arts Camp. He is a member of the New York Singing Teachers Association (NYSTA), AEA, and AFTRA. He has studied voice with Arthur Levy, Mark Oswald, George Shirley, Julian Patrick, and is currently a student of Scott Murphree. His coaches include Howard Watkins, Jonathan Kelly, Jennifer Peterson, John Dicostanzo and Audrey Saint-Gil.
He is the proud namesake of his Grandfather, Judge Glenn Seven Allen, Jr.
