Glenn Seven Allen has appeared on Broadway, Off-Broadway, and at major regional theatres and concert venues throughout the United States. He has been nominated for a Helen Hayes award for Best Actor as Clifford Bradshaw in CABARET at Arena Stage in Washington D.C. under the direction of Molly Smith. Recently, he appeared in GIRL CRAZY at City Center Encores! and Off-Broadway in the new musical revue FOR LOVERS ONLY, singing works by Sondheim, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, and Billy Joel, to name a few. Favorite roles include playing Edward Rutledge in 1776 at the Goodspeed Opera House and Michael Morgan in A FINE AND PRIVATE PLACE at the York Theatre opposite Christiane Noll. On-Broadway he appeared in THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA at Lincoln Center, understudying the roles of Fabrizio and Giuseppe. Previously, he originated the role of Giuseppe in pre-Broadway productions of ...PIAZZA at the Goodman and Initman Theatres. He also starred in KNB in the New York International Fringe Festival produced by Gorilla Rep. Regional credits include playing Pontius Pilate in JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR (North Carolina Theatre) and Frederic in THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE (Utah Shakespeare Festival). Other credits include JULIUS CEASAR (Utah Shakespeare Festival), THE ARK (Village Theatre), LIGIEA (Aspen Music Festival), A MICHIGAN MAN (Solo Show-On the Boards), and THE STUDENT PRINCE (Papermill Playhouse) and MRS. BROMLEY (Harold Clurman Theatre). Mr. Allen is grateful to have worked with directors such as Craig Lucas, Jerry Zaks, Jon Jory, Bartlett Sher, Molly Smith, Gabriel Barre, Lisa Peterson, Rob Ruggiero, Rebecca Brown, Michael Unger, and Jerry Manning.
Mr. Allen is a trained operatic tenor. Recently, he sang the role of Rodolpho in A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE with VPR Opera, supervised by William Bolcom. He made his NYC operatic debut as Romeo in Gounod’s Romeo et Juliette for New York Lyric Opera under the baton of Maestro John Yaffe. His teachers have included Arthur Levy, George Shirley, Mark Oswald, Julian Patrick, and Scott Murphree.
He has performed in concerts at The Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center's American Songbook (Casino Paradise), Symphony Space, Music Hall/Detroit (Stars of Ballet and Broadway), The NY Historical Society, Joe's Pub, Broadway High Note, and the Ars Nova Broadway Spotlight, the Brooklyn Museum, and the Westfield Symphony. He can be heard on the cast recordings of A FINE AND PRIVATE PLACE (Jay Records) and THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA (Nonesuch).
His film/television credits include appearances on AS THE WORLD TURNS as Dr. Joshua and as himself on MTV performing ‘Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go’.
Mr. Allen has been a teaching associate and artist at Collaborative Arts Project 21 (Cap21/NYU). He has also taught acting at the University of Washington. In addition, runs a highly-regarded voice studio with students appearing in leading roles On-Broadway in productions including SOUTH PACIFIC, PAL JOEY, THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA, HAIRSPRAY, SWEENEY TODD, and SHREK. Several of his students are Tony-Award nominees.
His training includes an MFA in Acting from the University of Washington’s Professional Actor Training Program and a BFA in Musical Theatre from the University of Michigan. In addition, he attended the Interlochen International Arts Camp, the Aspen Music Festival, and the New York Opera Studio. He has studied singing with Arthur Levy, Mark Oswald, Scott Murphree, Julian Patrick, and George Shirley. Acting teachers include Jon Jory, Michael Miller, Scott Freeman, Jed Diamond, Mark Jenkins, Steve Pearson, Robyn Hunt, and Cathy Madden. He is a member of the New York Singing Teachers Association (NYSTA), Actors’ Equity Association, and AFTRA
A native Michigander, he is a life-long summer resident of Mackinac Island, and is happily married with two children. He is the proud namesake of his Grandfather, Judge Glenn Seven Allen, Jr.
